Gauguin

Eau Délicieuse (1894)

French post-impressionist painter Gauguin considered himself a symbolist. He sought the hidden reality behind the image using his characteristic colours and an immediate, almost naive style of painting. His most renowned works were painted in French Polynesia. Disillusioned, he left for this paradisiacal island kingdom to escape the suffocating European artistic scene.
