Winterhalter
Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805-1873) Winterhalter was trained as a lithographer in Freiburg im Breisgau and studied at the art academy in Munich. He was a court painter in Karlsruhe from 1828 to 1834. He lived in Paris for much of his career. Important works by Winterhalter are Portrait of Napoleon III (1855), Empress Eugénie surrounded by her ladies-in-waiting and the portraits of Empress Elisabeth.
