Kasimir Malevich Malevich was an important founder and theorist of the Russian avant-garde. As a self-proclaimed suprematist his aim was to create the purest experience of the visual arts. To achieve this goal he explored innovative styles, from geometrism and absolute abstraction (The Black Square) to futuristic figuration.
