L'Oiseau de Ciel (1966)
René Magritte was a world renowned Belgian surrealist painter. His most famous work is undoubtedly ‘La Trahison des images’ [the Treachery of Images] that bears the words ‘Ceci n’est pas une pipe’ under the realistic depiction of a pipe.
Art is merely imagination and imagination was René Magritte’s strength.
In his search for reality he utilised recurring visual elements in his paintings including the man in the bowler hat or the cloud theme.
