Ours blanc
(1920 – 1933)
Pompon spent the majority of his life working for other artists. From 1890 to 1895 he was Rodin's 'chef d’atelier' and he subsequently assisted René de Saint-Marceaux until 1916. He also continued to look for his own style which was heavily influenced by the rise of Japonism and his admiration for Egyptian art.
His big breakthrough – the exhibiting of his famous polar bear − came when he was already 67.
