Red kite
Red kite, Milvus, 60 cm
This large bird of prey with its 1.6 metre wingspan can be recognised in flight thanks to its deeply forked tail. It is a carrion eater that sometimes indulges in live prey up to rabbits in size. They are rarely sighted, though – thanks to the many measures introduced – numbers are starting to rise again.
